Why Do We Worship?

There are many ways we worship God, we clap, we dance, we kneel, we sing, we shout, and sometimes we sit in silence reflecting on Gods goodness. No matter how we worship, one thing will always remain the same and that is why we worship.

Recently, the youth group at my church went on there own summer camp retreat and one of the things they talked about was why we worship. So on the first Sunday, after the camp was over, all the youth that had attended the camp were asked to come up front and one-by-one share what they had learned during the past week. They all had great things to say about the trip and there was even a few kids that build a real relationship with he Lord. Then the youth pastor came up and said something that surprised me. He taught the same thing that I had been teaching worship teams for years as to why we worship. To be honest, I became a little more excited then I am willing to admit.

Anyways, all that to say this.

I am surprised and a little embarrassed that I haven’t written a blog about this before. The reason of why we worship, its so simple but yet so profound. So here it is, I’m going to share with you my summation of why we worship. The same definition of worship I’ve been sharing for years to worship teams from the east coast to the west coast. Are you ready?…

“Worship is the appropriate response to all God has revealed to you”

What has God revealed to me? You ask. Well, He reveals Himself in so many different ways. Its in every breath that you take, in the breeze on the beach, in the crisp forest air, its in that peace you can somehow find in the most terrible situations. You can find Gods self revelation all around us. And in that self revelation you can find why we worship Him. Because He is always good, never changing, He is the Healer, Provider and Corner Stone. He is the Author of all life, the Beginning and the End, the Victor, the King and in all that He is, He still finds time for us, in all that we aren’t. Because He knows that we are so much more that we can fathom. Because He created us to be more then conquerors, He created us to be His.

And that is why we worship and that is why we keep worshiping.

  1. This. Blessed. Me!!! Thank you for that truthful statement. I’ll share it the next time I meet with our worship team – “Worship is the appropriate response to all God has revealed to you”

  2. God is so good and when we worship Him with that mind set, worship takes on a whole new meaning. It’s not about what we can get out of worship but what we can give to the Lord. Thank you for reading. I pray that the Lord blesses you and your worship team.
